Baby Duck Syndrome (BDS) is a phenomenon where computer users judge and dislike a new operating system compared to the first one they learnt[1]. It is most commonly seen in a person moving from a Windows operating system to a free Unix-like operating system, especially Linux and BSD. While Macintosh computers have less vocal incidents of baby duck syndrome, it is still common.

Keyboards

A common example of Baby Duck Syndrome is user's preferences of keyboards. There are whole companies [2] that are dedicated to create obsolete keyboards such as UNIX and older Macintosh keyboards because of users who do not wish to migrate to a newer QWERTY or Dvorak model.

Despite the fact that it is believed by some that the Dvorak format of keyboard is superior to the common QWERTY, a large migration is unlikely, due (in part) to BDS, as many users will have difficulty adjusting to a new standard of keyboard.
